Parish Historical Archives
The origin of Saint Anthony's Church, Mankhurd, goes back to the dawn of the Franciscan mission in Salsette. It is recorded that between 1585 and 1595, Father Antonio do Porto and his companions established several churches in the region, including the early chapel at Mankhurd (then known as Mani).
The parish of St. Anthony today falls in one of the vibrant areas of Mankhurd, Mumbai. As a result, its parish population has grown steadily, bringing together diverse families in prayer and service.
As a footnote, it may be added that the statue of Our Lady of Health which once belonged to the Franciscan church on top of the hill (about an hour's walk from Mani) is now kept on the main altar of the church of St. Anthony.
